IBEW Local 48 “hosted” the Veteran’s Day Winterhawks game for Local 48 veterans and their families. Although the Local Union was made aware of the opportunity at a very late date, Business Manger Clif Davis said the right thing to do would be the best that we can under the circumstances. A notice was posted on the website, information was routed to a central contact, and several members and their families enjoyed a great game between the Winterhawks and the Kamloops Blazers. (It seemed weird, even for Portland, to root against the Blazers!).
Portland prevailed 3-1 in the contest, and it was announced that just over 500 veterans and military personnel were in attendance.
If you have never been to a hockey game, you really should try it. They keep the audience involvement during the game with a “Puck Toss,” a 50/50 drawing for a youth charity where the winner walked away with over $900, and other fun stuff!
