Thomas A. Henderson

Thomas A. Henderson passed away Sept. 5, 2014, with loved ones by his side. He had been under hospice care for several weeks and was able to die at home.

He was born July 13, 1940, to Jack and Jeanette Henderson in Tacoma. He grew up on McNeil Island in Puget Sound where his father, Jack, was a corrections officer. After graduation from high school in 1958, Tom joined the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Pictor for four years. In 1962, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served until 1966. He finished his military service in the U.S. Naval Reserve and retired in 1981.

He was a construction electrician for Bonneville Power, traveling all over the Northwest from 1972 until his retirement in 1987. He then worked out of IBEW Local 48, retiring in 1999. He married Diane Bowser July 2, 1966. They recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.

Over the years, he and his wife owned many RVs. They loved to travel to the Oregon coast and throughout Oregon and Washington state. Tom remodeled his home over the years. His signature is everywhere in that home. He also thought a day fishing on the ocean was the best place to be. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. His parents, older brother and sister preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Diane; sons, Tom II (Ciera) and John (Jeanna); grandchildren, Rebecca Funk (Zack), Kalyn Kelsay and Holly and Brett Henderson; and sister, Susan Riis and her family.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at Omega Funeral & Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Kaiser Permanente Hospice Program or the Oregon Humane Society. People we love are never lost For memories linger still; Love just keeps on growing And I know it always will.
