Bruce N. Zimmerman

Bruce Neal Zimmerman, 70, of Wilsonville, died April 27, 2015 at the Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathleen Weber; daughters Ruthie (Andrew) Smith and Elizabeth Zimmerman; grandson Asher Smith; granddaughter Evelyn Smith; and brother Gary (Judy) Zimmerman.

Bruce was born June 16, 1944 in Portland, the son of Rudolph and Ruth (Moser) Zimmerman. He attended Sellwood schools and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1962. He went on to study mathematics and play football at Portland State University, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

Bruce was a dedicated electrician and instructor, working for many years at West Side Electric and at the NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center. He not only took pride in his work, but truly valued the friends he made during his time in the industry. Over the years, his experience and reputation led him to serve as the president for IBEW Local 48. He also served on several electrical boards, most recently chairing the board of the IBEW and United Workers Federal Credit Union.

Bruce enjoyed running and played several sports, including football, basketball and softball. He met his wife, Kathy Weber, at a softball game in which he was playing and they were married February 11, 1981. He truly enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly at the coast and in Eastern Oregon and went hunting, crabbing, fishing and camping whenever he could. He usually brought along family or friends and always came back with a good story. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend, and was continually looking out for others.

A memorial service will be held at St. Cyril Catholic Church in Wilsonville on Saturday, May 2 at 11:30 am, with a reception immediately following.
