Public Sector Business Representative
The Public Sector Business Representative will be responsible for representing IBEW Local 48 members who work under the Portland Public School District and City of Portland Agreements as well as other non-construction contracts. This position will also be responsible for assisting in organizing efforts within the Public Sector Unit. Local 48 Business Office employees should expect night and weekend assignments when applicable.
This position requires a thorough knowledge of CBAs, the IBEW Constitution and Local Union Bylaws, a working knowledge of pension and health care benefit plans, organizing efforts, grievance procedures and status of active grievances, public sector bargaining, Business Representative assignments, and all other aspects of Local Union business.
This position will require a good understanding of numerous laws that affect public sector workers: worker's compensation, Oregon PECBA (Public Employee Collective Bargaining Act), Oregon ERB (Employment Relations Board), Oregon PERS (Public Employee Retirement System), FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), LMRDA (Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act), EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission), FMCS (Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services), FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) and State counterparts to name the primary laws.
Also recommended for this position is an understanding of the structure of Portland City Council and the roles of the City Commissioners as well as knowledge of state and local government and how they affect public sector workers.
The compensation package for Business Office staff is determined by the Local 48 Bylaws.
